SkyFive successfully closes the Pre-Series A Financing Round by onboarding its first institutional investor

November 25, 2020

Munich, Germany – SkyFive today announced the closing of its significant Pre-Series A Financing Round, led by a major German investor. This first institutional investor joined the existing business angels, who all doubled their initial investment, and were joined additionally by two industry icons: Louis Belanger-Martin, serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Global Eagle, and Alain Lejeune, a seasoned executive from the telecommunications industry with strong roots in China.

SkyFive provides high-speed broadband services for the aviation industry, based on its patented Air-To-Ground (A2G) solution that leverages standard mobile network components. A2G is the only technology that can meet the ever-increasing demand for broadband connectivity in the sky. It delivers bandwidth up to 100 times cheaper than satellite systems, and flexibly scales to address the future connectivity needs of airlines, business jet operators, and providers of Urban Air Mobility.

Airlines with a strong digitization strategy are emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic stronger than their competitors. Broadband connectivity for the entire fleet is a key enabler for profound digitization, to improve operational efficiency, generate ancillary revenue, and provide a safe and touchless travel experience. The SKYFive A2G solution is already in commercial operations in all of Europe, which acts as the springboard for the global expansion, with several further deployments being well underway. For example, in August, SKYFive and Airbus signed an agreement to provide an A2G solution for China, which meanwhile has become the largest aviation market.

“We are extremely happy about having the support of such ambitious and successful investors, especially during these troublesome times for the aviation industry”, said CEO Thorsten Robrecht. “As true industry experts, they understand how our disruptive offering will change the paradigm of inflight connectivity, and facilitate the digitization of aviation at large.”

“Now is the time for SKYFive to take off and proliferate its services into the most dynamic aviation markets worldwide”, said Louis Belanger-Martin

“Aviation has only scratched the surface of digitization, also thinking of aircraft IoT today and future drone connectivity. As the pandemic pushes aviation into further digitization, airlines will benefit from cutting-edge digital processes in real time during flights using A2G.”
